The laboratory develops fundamental and applied research on natural water body hydrodynamics and studies the mobilization, transport and final destination of sediments, emphasizing cohesive sediments.

LDSC has a physical space of 200 square meters, equipped for working with numerical modeling, lab experiments, preparation and calibration of field equipment and sample analysis for the determination of suspended solid concentration, consolidation, granulometry (Malvern) ereometry . It also relies on equipment for field use, such as current profilers (ADCP), current punctual meters (ADV), wave and current profilers (Awac), sensors for measuring suspended sediment concentration (OBS) and fluid mud (DensiTune) and others (CTD, multiparameter probes, altimeter and ecobatimeter).

The laboratory is linked to the Ocean Engineering Program of Coppe and to the DRHIMA of the Polytechnic School.
