Ms Tapia has graduated in Naval Engineering at the StateTechnical University, Valdivia, Chile (1979), holds a Master’s degree in Oceanic Engineering awarded by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1986) and a PhD in Oceanic Engineering by the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1995).  She is currently Associate Professor IV at the same institution.

Ms Tapia’s expertise is in naval and offshore engineering, with an emphasis in theoretical and experimental analysis of ship-building structures and techniques.  She is currently involved in the following key subjects: preliminary design of naval and off-shore structures, structural modelling, ship-building methods, and installation of off-shore structures.
