Graduated in 1966, awarded the M.Sc. in 1967 and the  Ph.D. in1970, all degrees in  chemical engineering from the University of London (Battersea College of Advanced Technology and Imperial College London). He is currently Full Professor in the Ocean Engineering Program of COPPE, at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, and works in the Naval Logistics and Transportation Area of ​​the Ocean Engineering Program of COPPE at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and collaborates with the Coastal Engineering Area of ​​the Ocean Engineering Program of COPPE at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. He has cerca five decades of professional experience in: (1) industrial research and development in Brazil and abroad, (2) academic teaching and research, and (3) business consulting. This experience encompasses chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, production engineering, and ocean and naval engineering, resulting in: (1) completion of three research and industrial development projects, (2) supervision of cerca 120 master dissertations and 30 doctoral theses , (3) cerca 70 papers presented at scientific congresses in Brazil and abroad, (4) cerca 60 papers published in indexed journals, and (5) cerca 25 business consulting projects. Since 2009, he has worked on two research themes: (1) optimisation of logistics and maritime transportation and (2) optimisation of the conversion of hydrokinetic energy to electrical energy.
