“University extension, under the constitutional principle of the inseparability between education, research and extension, is an interdisciplinary educational, cultural, scientific and political process that promotes transformative interaction between universities and other sectors of the society.”

FORPROEX, 2010

The extension actions involve courses, events or projects, coordinated by professors and/or administrative technicians from the social body of UFRJ. The primary and major target audience of these actions are members of the community outside UFRJ, characterizing the focus of the action in meeting the demands of the other sectors of society.

Every extension action, due to its academic character of education, has in its execution the effective participation of students regularly enrolled in undergraduate courses at UFRJ and the desirable participation of students regularly enrolled in graduate courses or basic education at UFRJ, to enable them to experience the education-learning relationship through dialogue with the demands and problems of other sectors of the society.

At UFRJ, the extension actions are registered in the integrated academic management system (SIGA), duly assessed and approved by the different academic levels (Units, Centers or equivalent) to which the proponent (coordinator) is affiliated and evaluated by the ad hoc commissions of the Pro-Rectory of Extension.

More information can be obtained on the page of the Pro-Rectory of Extension (PR-5) of UFRJ:

Some extension actions developed with the participation of the personnel of the Naval and Ocean Engineering Department (DENO) of the Polytechnic School and the Ocean Engineering Department (PEnO) of COPPE are presented in the following.
